Cote d'Ivoire is a West African country located in the tropical zones of the continent. The country has a wide spread of flora and fauna, with rich concentrates of fresh water species, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. Part of these animal concentrations includes animals that can only be found in the West African parts of the content.
The country has a large variety of animals unique to the land. The chichild, two mochokid
catfish, two African tetras and
killifish are some of the one of a kind fresh water species associated with the country. The country also has distinctive species of the amphibian family, which include the rainforest frog, toad Bufo, Thai
river frog, two reed frogs and some more species that were discovered that belong to the same class. Some rare reptile species that have rich concentrates in the land like the Tai Hairy Bush Viper, the worm lizard and the white-bellied
Worm snake. The Wimmer's Shrew is the only mammal species found in Cote d'Ivoire. The country has a large variety of spiders, beetles, butterflies and bugs that are exceptional to the land.
The country also has a large number of species associated to the western African parts like the
African Elephant,
Chimpanzee,
Diana Monkey, Wild Dog, Nimber otter shrew, pigmy
hippopotamus,
zebra Duiker, crocodiles, hyenas,
Liberian Mongoose, Red Colobus, Pied Bat, Lion, and
African Golden Cat. Most of these species remain endangered due to poaching and hunting activities.
Cote d'Ivoire has a dense rain forest on its southern sides with trees that average above 30 m high. The country also boasts of rare plant species that face extinction due to deforestation, agriculture based activities and other uncontrolled factors like forest fires. It also enjoys some fresh water environmental benefits associated to the tropical regions and surrounding neighbors. It also has some areas covered with savanna plantations.
