Animals in Kiribati
The island nation of Kiribati is located on the Southern pacific. This island nation contains some bird and animal species not found no where else in the world. The island also has fish and crab species unique to this nation.

Reed Warbler and the Bokikokiko. The other bird species native to Kiribati is the Kiritimati Sandpiper which, unfortunately, is extinct.

The most popular animal species in Kiribati is actually a bird, the Magnificent Frigate bird. This bad was previously known as the Man O'War, because of its speed as well as aerial attacks on other birds.

The Magnificent Frigate bird is wide spread across the many islands of the central and southern Pacific. This birds is also found as far as Florida, in the USA, the Isle of Man in the UK and in British Columbia.

This little bird is about 39 inches across and a wing spread of 85 inches. The males have a pouch which is red in color, but spot a black coat on the rest of their bodies. During the breeding season, the pouch swells like a balloon. The female of this species also spots a black coat but has a white chest area and is much smaller in size and weight. They also have a blue ring on the eyes and brown lines on the wings. This bird is silent during flight and has stealth flight sessions. It does make a certain noise when nesting and mainly feeds on fish caught in the sea. The do not land in water but eat their food in flight.
This bird can spend days and nights in flight over the sea. they sometimes attack other birds, forcing them to give up their food.
